Body Mass Index (BMI) is a calculation that is based on your height and weight to
determine if you are underweight, a perfect weight, overweight, or overweight. The test is an
indication of the total body fat that you are carrying around. The number ranges are
fairly accurate but there are several circumstances when the calculations might not be 100%
true. As these results are purely based on numbers, you should take the number you are
given as well as discuss other contributing factors together with your doctor (such as muscle pounds or
body type considerations).

A BMI of 30 or over is considered obese. The higher end of the scale for overweight
people (25 – 29.Nine) and people that fall into the obese category are at a heightened risk for
developing type 2 diabetes. Other threat indicators are waist circumferences. If you are
a man and your waist measures 40 inches or more and if you are a woman and your waist
measures 35 inches or more, there is an increased abdominal fat risk element for diabetes
and other diseases.

Maintaining a healthy bmi is all about coming to a weight that is right for your own height and
body type. Both of these goals will bring many more benefits than just better controlled
blood glucose levels. You will also have increased power, can reduce the amount of
insulin you are on, and give yourself a longer life expectations.

Reduce your total body fat to create your BMI into a wholesome range (18.5-24.9). Consult
your doctor and get advice on how you can meet your goals. And if you are just starting an
exercise routine, get the alright from your doctor first. You should not overtax yourself
at the beginning and your physician may have some restrictions for you to ensure you do not
suffer from injury or hypoglycemia.

If your BMI exceeds 35, you could still reverse type 2 diabetes through bariatric surgery.

Since that time I could remember him, my uncle Tom was always a food lover. The fact is that I always recall him being a fat guy.

I must say that if it weren’t for his wife Matilda, I doubt whether he would be alive today, as she was always getting food from him and asking him to stop taking food. Poor aunt Matilda always did her best to cook the kind of foods that are encouraged by nutritionists and as far as I know, she always prepared healthy meals for her family. Matilda always refrained from cooking desserts, unless they’d visitors for dinner.

Sadly, my uncle always craved sweets, cakes, doughnuts, chocolates, or be it virtually any food that has lots of sugar content. Because of this, Tom took a habit of going to the supermarket to obtain sweets, or all other “missing” items that his wife won’t usually buy. Consuming an entire packet of biscuits at tea time is normal for uncle Tom. Matilda does her best to control her husband’s eating while at their home, though she’s not necessarily successful. However she is not with him in the office and you never know what type of foods and sweets my uncle eats during office hours.

Quite a few doctors recommended that he ought to lose weight as he was risking severe health complications, nonetheless it all fell on deaf ears. My uncle is a hard headed man and when people simply tell him to limit his diet he usually does the contrary. My cousins, uncle Tom’s daughter and son, also love sweets. This comes to no real surprise.

Several days ago, uncle Tom was informed that he has diabetes type 2. Initially uncle Tom couldn’t believe his doctor but he got astonished and amazed when he realized that it was not a joke. His doctor advised that it would be best to have a glucose meter, either by purchasing one or by registering to acquire a free one at some websites. How can uncle Tom live without his beloved biscuits, cakes and desserts I don’t know!

My uncle appears to be still stunned by the words of his doctor. His appetite for sweets has waned, but so is his desire to be joyful and happy. However, Tom still has to follow his doctor’s advice in obtaining a glucose meter.

After looking for glucose meters on two search engines, I stumbled on a web page that provides glucose meters at no charge, provided you give them your contact information. Another thing I realized is that a glucometer is an alternative word for a glucose meter.

I filled every detail of uncle Tom inside the form provided and registered to get a free glucose meter. This is the least I possibly could do for my poor uncle.

I am unaware the length of time does it take to process the registration, but I’m hoping that it won’t take very long to get the free glucometer.

People with diabetes have to always be evaluating their blood sugar levels during the day to be sure the glucose in their blood is at a normal range. This being said, diabetic people have to use a blood sugar monitor to help them keep a check on the blood glucose levels.

A blood glucose meter is a small hand held medical device that determines the approximate concentration of glucose in the blood. After pricking the skin, usually the finger, with a lancet, the drop of blood is placed on a small disposable strip that is inserted to the meter so it will read the levels of bloodsugar.

Generally, glucose monitors are small and can fit perfectly on the palm of a persons hand. On average, most meter are equipt with a clock and memory that keeps track of the day and time of the test readings. The memory that a particular meter comes with varies by brand, it could hold anywhere between 50-3000 tests. This is a big asset since it is an important aspect for diabetics being able to check on trends and patterns to better track their diabetes.

Some diabetic meters come with software where you will be able to download test information and keep records in your computer. The nice thing about the software is that it comes with many tools like graphical trend analysis, report creation, and permits a person to share this information with their practitioner. Enabling the doctor to see the records of your test will help you and the doctor better manage your diabetes together.

Each meter has a different range on how much blood it needs to read the glucose in your blood, but they are all very small. The amount of blood that comes out once you prick is enough for the device to make a reading. The test result will take between three to sixty senconds depending on the brand. So, there is really no waiting time evolved.

To sum it up, these are the basics when looking to purchase a new glucose meter.

Have you tried all of the other methods to control your disease and failed? Then perhaps it is time to try metabolic sugery to reverse type 2 diabetes.

We have been reporting on our website that the number of type 2 diabetes patients around the world is 220 million. However, we we using outdated statistics, and we are making a correction.

As of 2008, the World Health Organization estimates that there are 347 million people with type 2 diabetes, which is nearly 6% of the world’s population. According to the Wall Street Journal Online, “The latest calculation, based on a study published in the British journal Lancet, found that the number of adult diabetics jumped to 347 million [in 2008] from 153 million in 1980.

According to the study, the U.S. had 24.7 million diabetics in 2008, nearly triple the level of three decades ago. The estimate includes people afflicted with type-1 diabetes, which is a disorder of the body’s immune system, as well as the far more common type-2 diabetes, a chronic disorder marked by high levels of sugar in the blood.

While about 70% of the increase was attributed to population growth and aging, the balance was linked to changing diets, rising obesity and growing rates of physical inactivity.”

In Costa Rica, doctor Jacobo Zafrani, a renowned laparoscopic gastric bypass surgeon in the region, is doing his part to put an end to this disease. Metabolic surgery, a variation of gastric bypass surgery, is being performed by the doctor, and his type 2 diabetes resolution rate is 90%!

This is not weight-loss surgery but a means to resolve the disease, resolve hypertension, and lower high cholesterol levels. If you are looking to put an end to your disease, then you need to take a look at what doctor Zafrani is doing in Costa Rica. It may just be that metabolic surgery is the right solution for your disease.

The statistics are staggering and mind boggling! The American Diabetes Association is saying, “you will find nearly 26 million individuals in the United States that have diabetes. Within that number are around 18 million who have already been clinically diagnosed. Sorry to say, seven million individuals are unaware of the fact that they have the illness. If actual trends persist, 1 in 3 United States adults are likely to have diabetes by 2050.”

Regrettably, when you mature and grow old, your odds of being diagnosed with diabetes type 2 are much greater. The studies point out the fact that fourteen percent of the persons over the age of 50 at some stage will get diabetes type 2, and that is also a a jaw dropping stat when you consider the fact that you can find six billion plus persons on earth. In fact, it is likely that you or someone you know probably have diabetes type 2.

If you should be among those who are affected by the condition, you have most likely utilized a healthy food plan, aerobic exercise, changing lifestyle, and most likely numerous other ways to control your sickness. However, quite often these ways and means are not enough to suppress the sickness, you often end up attempting to control it by using prescribed drugs or insulin injections.

The results of type two diabetes upon your system are usually very extreme and draining. As your disorder takes its toll, it can go on to cause renal system failure, blindness, gangrene, limb amputations, epidermis infections, cardiovascular disease, coma, stroke, shock, and death in extreme cases.

It seems logical that you would expect to resolve your disorder instead of looking to limit it. However, the ways which are currently practiced can do just that; they will only control the disorder instead supplying you the right way to resolve it.

On the other hand, you can find a way to deal with and resolve type two diabetes that has proven itself to be efficient in giving a resolution for the sickness in ninety percent of the affected individuals with the disease. Metabolic surgery, a derivation of mini gastric bypass surgery, is now being utilized to reverse the disease. This is a novel approach because, as an alternative to using gastric bypass surgery as a weightloss technique, it is transformed to be sure that it resolves Diabetes type 2.

The doctor on this website asserts that type two diabetes can be resolved ”through metabolic surgery,” and he happens to be one of the principal laparoscopic gastric bypass and metabolic specialists in the Americas.

The video on this website claims that doctor Zafrani has performed more than two-hundred metabolic surgeries, and that the operation has been effective in reversing the disorder in 90% of the affected individuals, and the documentation is there to support the claims.

Anyone who has Type Two Diabetes, anyone looking for answers and other possibilities, can now look into reversal by means of metabolic surgery as one of the available venues.

A key gene mutation that is responsible for type 2 diabetes in nearly 10 percent of patients of white European ancestry has been identified through a multinational study.

This study was conducted in Italy, and it was validated at UCSF. The study found that mutations in the HMGA1 gene are what lead to a the body’s decrease in the production of insulin receptors, which are the cell’s sensors through which insulin tells the cell to absorb glucose. This decrease in insulin receptors leads to insulin resistance and what used to be called adult onset diabetes and is now known as type 2 diabetes, according to the paper from the study.

These findings appeared in the March 2 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and it can be found online at http://www.jama.org.

The results from the study provide the singular opportunity to predict potential for the disease in patients through at test, and the possibility of identifying which of the diabetes medications that are now used function best for people with this gene mutation, according to the authors. In the end, it might also help to point research toward finding new and improved drugs for type 2 diabetes patients.

Although research was focused on Caucasians, the groundwork for similar studies in patients of African, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American descent, who suffer from higher rates of the disease has been laid, according to Ira Goldfine, MD, a UCSF professor of medicine, physiology, and diabetes researcher who led the U.S. arm of these studies.

Dr. Goldfine noted, “This is a major breakthrough in type 2 diabetes,” stating that 26 million Americans have diabetes and approximately 79 million have pre-diabetes. He continued, “Many of our current diabetes drugs are very effective in some patients and not in others. This finding could not only explain why that is, but also could help us target the right drug for the right person, so diabetics can manage their disease better and lead healthier lives.”

Type 2 diabetes is a growing global concern which has reached epidemic proportions. It is estimated that it affects more than 250 million people worldwide, with more and more people being diagnosed with the disease every day. Type 2 diabetes disease has long been known to have both hereditary and lifestyle components, but no single gene mutation had been pinpointed as playing a major role in causing it until this study.

If you are currently suffering from type 2 diabetes disease and its often debilitating and devastating effects, the study is a major step toward pinpointing the causes of the disease and the battle to find a cure. However, the study does not do you much good right now if the disease is wreaking havoc on your body systems.

If you want to resolve your disease and stop it from diminishing your life-expectancy, there is a way to reverse the disease. Type 2 Diabetes International has partnered with Doctor Jacobo Zafrani, a leading metabolic and gastric bypass surgeon to provide a surgery specifically designed to resolve the disease.

This is not weight reduction surgery, it is surgery to reverse type 2 diabetes and its debilitating and devastating effects.

If you have the disease, then you probably already know that type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. There are millions of Americans who have been diagnosed with and are suffering the effects of type 2 diabetes.

Unfortunately, there are many more who are unaware that they have the disease. For some people, simply belonging to a specific ethnic group places them in a high risk category.

Some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than others. Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent in Latinos, Native Americans, African Americans, and Pacific Islanders. In addition, of the people aged 40 or above, 14% will develop the disease.

The problem with type 2 diabetes is that either the body does not produce insulin in sufficient quantities, or the cells ignore the insulin. However, Insulin is primordial so that the body can properly use glucose for energy.

When a person eats food, the sugars and starches are broken down by the body into glucose, and this is the basic and most essential fuel so that the cells in the body can function properly.

Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can lead to type 2 diabetes complications, which can include gangrene, limb amputations, blindness, kidney failure, skin infections, cardiovascular disease, coma, stroke, shock, and even death.

The numbers behind type 2 diabetes mellitus are quite striking:

Total: There are currently 25.8 million children and adults in the United States (approximately 8.3% of the population) who have diabetes.

Number Diagnosed: 18.8 million people

Number Undiagnosed: 7.0 million people

People with Prediabetes: 79 million people*

Number of New Cases: 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.

People under 20 years of age who have diabetes:

215,000, or approximately 0.26% of all people in this age group have diabetes

About 1 in every 400 children and adolescents has type 1 diabetes

Age 20 years or older

25.6 million, or 11.3% of all people in this age group have diabetes

Age 65 years or older

10.9 million, or 26.9% of all people in this age group have diabetes

Men

13.0 million, or 11.8% of all men aged 20 years or older have diabetes

Women

12.6 million, or 10.8% of all women aged 20 years or older have diabetes

Race and ethnic differences in prevalence of diagnosed diabetes

After adjusting for population age differences, 2007-2009 national survey data for people diagnosed with diabetes, aged 20 years or older include the following prevalence by race/ethnicity:

7.1% of non-Hispanic whites

8.4% of Asian Americans

12.6% of non-Hispanic blacks

11.8% of Hispanics

Among Hispanics rates were:

7.6% for Cubans

13.3% for Mexican Americans

13.8% for Puerto Ricans.

Morbidity and Mortality

In 2007, diabetes was listed as the underlying cause on 71,382 death certificates and was listed as a contributing factor on an additional 160,022 death certificates. This means that diabetes contributed to a total of 231,404 deaths.

Complications

Heart disease and stroke

In 2004, heart disease was noted on 68% of diabetes-related death certificates among people aged 65 years or older.

In 2004, stroke was noted on 16% of diabetes-related death certificates among people aged 65 years or older.

Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes.

The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.

High blood pressure

In 2005-2008, of adults aged 20 years or older with self-reported diabetes, 67% had blood pressure greater than or equal to 140/90 mmHg or used prescription medications for hypertension.

Blindness

Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults aged 20–74 years.

In 2005-2008, 4.2 million (28.5%) people with diabetes aged 40 years or older had diabetic retinopathy, and of these, almost 0.7 million (4.4% of those with diabetes) had advanced diabetic retinopathy that could lead to severe vision loss.

Kidney disease

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, accounting for 44% of new cases in 2008.

In 2008, 48,374 people with diabetes began treatment for end-stage kidney disease in the United States.

In 2008, a total of 202,290 people with end-stage kidney disease due to diabetes were living on chronic dialysis or with a kidney transplant in the United States.

Nervous system disease (Neuropathy)

About 60% to 70% of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nervous system damage.

Amputation

More than 60% of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations occur in people with diabetes.

In 2006, about 65,700 nontraumatic lower-limb amputations were performed in people with diabetes.

Cost of Diabetes

$174 billion: Total costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2007

$116 billion for direct medical costs

$58 billion for indirect costs (disability, work loss, premature mortality)

After adjusting for population age and sex differences, average medical expenditures among people with diagnosed diabetes were 2.3 times higher than what expenditures would be in the absence of diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association has a Diabetes Cost Calculator, and it takes the national cost of diabetes data and gives estimates at the state and congressional district level.

Factoring in the additional costs of undiagnosed diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes brings the total cost of diabetes in the United States in 2007 to $218 billion.

$18 billion for people with undiagnosed diabetes

$25 billion for American adults with prediabetes

$623 million for gestational diabetes

For Additional Information

These stastics and additional information can be found in the National Diabetes Fact Sheet, 2011, the most recent comprehensive assessment of the impact of diabetes in the United States, jointly produced by the CDC, NIH, ADA, and other organizations.

Want to Do Something About It?

Don’t like these numbers? At Type 2 Diabetes International, we don’t like them either.

If you are among the millions who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, then you can do something about it. Type 2 Diabetes International has teamed with Doctor Jacobo Zafrani, one of the foremost laparoscopic gastric bypass surgeons in the Americas, to provide resolution for type 2 diabetes.

Doctor Zafrani uses a modification of mini gastric bypass surgery to treat and reverse type 2 diabetes. This is not weight loss surgery, it is a treatment specifically designed to provide a resolution for type 2 diabetes.

Metabolic surgery has proven to be successful in reversing type 2 diabetes in 90% of patients. If you are tired of having to use medication and insulin to control type 2 diabetes, then you need to take a good look at metabolic surgery as a means to reverse type 2 diabetes and its often devastating effects.

Can you actually cure Type 2 Diabetes?

It would be unethical to say that there is a short-term cure for type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association sets the standards, and no one can say that their type 2 diabetes is cured unless it has been in remission for 5 years.

Metabolic or mini-gastric bypass surgery has been performed in Costa Rica for nearly 5 years. However, the surgeon who performs this particular procedure, Doctor Jacobo Zafrani (One of the leading laparoscopic surgeons in the Americas), has a success rate of 90% in reversing type 2 diabetes with a less than 1% complication rate.

These are phenomenal numbers, and it is clear proof that most people will benefit from this type of surgery if they want to treat and reverse their type 2 diabetes disease. If you are reading this post, then it is probably because you, a family member or friend, or someone you know has the disease.

You are probably looking for ways to put an end to the often devastating effects that this disease has on the different body systems. Well, if that’s the case, then you now have a choice about reversing type 2 diabetes.

The longer you wait, the more harm that this disease is going to cause. You can fill out our contact form, request information, call, or you can even schedule a video conference with the surgeon.

All of the information you need is available on the website, so look through it, take a look at the video, take a good look at the information and the statistics, and then decide what you are going to do about you disease.
